Dr John Nwodo, has been elected the President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo. Nwodo succeeded Chief Gary Igariwey, who bowed out as the President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, after serving for four years.
John Nwodo is a brother of former Governor of Enugu State, Dr Okwesilieze Nwodo. A special assistant to former President Shehu Shagari, and also served as the Minister of Information and Culture during the administration of Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar (retrd.) from 1998 to 1999.
Chief Hilary Opara is the Deputy President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo and Mr. Uche Okwukwu from Rivers State the Secretary-General of the organisation. It was gathered that Okwukwu was backed by the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, in the election.
Pan-Northern Socio-political organisation, Arewa Consultative Forum was said to have lauded the election of Dr.John Nwodo, and commented that it was timely and appropriate considering his disposition, knowledge and experience. The ACF, in a statement through its National Publicity Secretary of the ACF, Alhaji Muhammad Ibrahim, urged him to bring his wealth of experience both in the public or private sector to bear in moving the nation forward. The statement said, “ACF is confident that as a former Minister of the Federal Republic and an astute politician, Dr. Nwodo will surely build bridges of understanding, respect and good relations with us for the common good of all.
